Camas: Our Stories

On October 12, 2019, the Camas Library provided the ideal venue for LGBTQ+ people to share their coming out stories. While this annual event is recognized on October 11th every year, we decided to spread out two events during the month in two different Clark County communities.

Planning with Camas Library was a delight. They planned every last detail and their entire team was involved in making this event special. For starters, the library created a reading list based on storyteller’s recommendations and had books readily available for checkout. They even created a handy brochure listing books by different categories.

If that wasn’t enough, one of their staff prepared a colorful array of treats including freshly baked rainbow cookies!

Our main program consisted of a facilitated discussion with six diverse people sharing various aspects of their coming out journeys to an appreciative audience. Many people stayed after the program to chat with with each other.

Immediately before and after the main program we had a resource fair staffed by volunteers from eight local agencies. This created wonderful community connections and greater community awareness of resources.

This would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, the City of Camas, Friend & Foundation of the Camas Library, Molina Healthcare, and Lisa Lê Properties, as well as Our Bold Voices.
